Boss has to die to award the achievement. you can track the achievement and if it turns white during the fight that means you got the ore into the ore grinder, meaning you can then kill the boss.

In WoW Dragonflight you can actually make quite a bit of gold mining ores, especially during the first stages of the new expansion, which have a naturally high demand for craftable gear and, as consequence, ore to make that gear.
I also recommend you take the first few quests in Shadowglen you can find, specifically the kill quest, as this Grinder targets the quest mobs, and do the followup, which will give you a new weapon, and will help your grinder. The profiles are split up, to make levelling up more efficient. and minimize downtime due to deaths etc.

Thousand needles has hardly any iron ore. Its full of Copper and tin ore. So you're wrong there, only has a few :/. Tanaris has hardly any iron ore or any ore at all so you're wrong there too. I went everywhere in Tanaris and found only 1 ore and 1 mithril ore. The locations above isn't very good at all, its just a waste of time.

To start the quest, you'll need Pristine Iron Ores and a Volatile Ore. The first train through the line will come from the closest line.
